Director of the Department Dr. Nguyen Khac Hien also said medical centres should devise plans to prepare necessary medicines and equipment to timely cope with any breakout of EVD.
The health sector has also taken drastic measures to cope with dengue fever, hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD), hepatitis B, A/H5N1 and A/H7N9 avian influenza.
In addition, the sector has strengthened supervision over the quality of water resources in rural areas, stepped up communications on the disease and encouraged residents to take preventive measures. Over 1,300 cases of EVD have been reported in four West African countries. The disease has a fatality rate of over 50%. The epidemic show no sign of decreasing in these countries and it is most likely to spread to other nations according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
